Padel debuts at Credit One Charleston Open

DANIEL ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) – A new racket sport will be launched in the Lowcountry at the Credit One Charleston Open.

Officials say padel is one of the fastest-growing racket sports in the world. It combines elements from tennis and squash, typically played in doubles on an enclosed court surrounded by glass and metallic mesh walls.

“We’re excited to be the first in the Lowcountry to offer fans the chance to experience this sport. Once you play, you’ll be hooked,” says Bob Moran, President of Beemok Sports & Entertainment, which manages the Credit One Charleston Open.

Officials say a padel court has been installed in the Credit One Stadium campus and will be available for demonstrations throughout the Credit One Charleston Open.

“We’ve followed the rise of padel around the world and the U.S., and we wanted to see how it would be received locally,” Moran added. “After a week of our members and guests playing, it’s obvious that padel is here to stay.”
