Water Mission to hold annual ‘Walk for Water’ Saturday
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Thousands of walkers are expected to gather Saturday at North Charleston to raise awareness and funds needed to fight the global water crisis.
Water Mission, a nonprofit building safe water solutions for people in developing countries, refugee camps, and disaster areas, will host its annual Walk for Water at Riverfront Park beginning at 8 a.m.
Organizers say the event allows participants to experience the daily reality faced by millions around walking miles each day to collect water, which is often unsafe.
“Today, 2 billion people, one-quarter of the world`s population, lack access to clean, safe water. This year, the Charleston community will walk to bring safe water to more than 14,000 people in need,” the nonprofit said.
Participants can help fight the global water crisis and change lives with access to clean, safe water. “Every step taken supports Water Mission’s work to provide sustainable safe water solutions, bringing health, hope, and opportunity to communities in need.”
The event takes place at Riverfront Park (1061 Everglades Avenue) at 8 a.m., with the walk getting underway at 9 a.m.
There will be food trucks, interactive activities, and live music. Those interested in attending can register online by clicking here. It costs $25 for adults, $10 for youth, and free for children aged four and under.
