Warming centers re-opening ahead of cold temperatures

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Two churches in the Tri-County area are opening their doors as warming centers ahead of dropping temperatures.

Seacoast Church in Summerville will accept men, women, and children from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Dec. 6 and Dec. 7, closing at 8 a.m.

The warming center is welcoming those without heat and people experiencing homelessness.

Seacoast Church is located at 301 E. 5th North Street. People seeking shelter are asked to enter at the back door facing Gum Street.

To get free transportation to this center, board CARTA route ten at the Meeting and Shepherd Street stop or Meeting and Johnson Street stop and let the driver know you are going to the Seacoast Warming Center.

Next, you will transfer to the Tri-County Link stop at 8571 Rivers Avenue. Pickup from this stop will be at 4:10 p.m., 5:16 p.m., and 6:30 p.m.

Holy City Missions at Aldersgate United Methodist Church will admit people from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Dec. 6.

Holy City Missions will accept men, women, and children but no pets. 

CARTA Route 13 will provide free transportation if you inform the driver you are going to the Holy City warming center.

The church is located at 14444 Remount Road in North Charleston.

The center will close at 7 a.m.
