Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua Agree to Two-Fight Deal
The negotiations have ended and Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua have come to an agreement for a two-fight deal to unify the heavyweight championship titles, ESPN reports. The final signature came on Saturday.
“We’d like to get a site deal confirmed in the next month,” said Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter. “The hard part is always getting everybody to put pen to paper. But this was a major effort from all parties to get this over the line. You had rival promoters, rival networks and rival fighters.”
“This is the biggest fight in boxing and one of the biggest sporting events in the world,” Hearn said. “It will be a major, major win for a country that wants to showcase itself.”
The contract has a 50-50 split in the first match and 60-40 for the rematch. Both fights are set for 2021 with target dates for the first in June/July and the rematch in November/December.
