Toronto Venue ‘History’ Cancels Yet Another TDE Artist’s Concert Date: ‘They DON’T like us’
Looks like there’s a pattern going on in the Six. Let’s track it. Toronto fans of TDE artist SiR faced disappointment with yet another last-minute concert cancellation in their market. The soul and R&B singer announced on X – that’s the new-ish name for Twitter, yes we still have to remind ya’ll – on Tuesday morning that his show was canceled. Not too big a deal, right? That happens all the time, yea? Well, the show was scheduled just that evening at History, a concert venue in Toronto’s east end, that happens to be (reportedly) co-owned by the Six God himself, Drake. Here’s what SiR said about the cancellation:
”So sorry to my Toronto fans,” he wrote. “The show has been cancelled.” We get it. We got it. But why?
The venue is operated by Live Nation, and the concert giant did not provide a reason for the cancellation. It was quiet.
The event listing was also removed from History’s official website. Again, it’s super quiet.
So here’s where the pattern comes in … This latest cancellation follows a kind of similar incident less than two weeks ago. See, TDE rapper Schoolboy Q cancelled his show at the same venue.
Get this, the reasons behind these cancellations remain murky, but some are speculating there’s a not so subtle connection to the never-ending feud, beef, hate or whatever between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. Again, we got it. We get it.
Check this out, we know Schoolboy Q and SiR are both signed to Top Dawg Entertainment, the label formerly home to Kendrick Lamar. Emphasis on formerly. And if you recall, the dynamic trio were part of the TDE group Black Hippy, alongside Jay Rock and Ab-Soul. So feels like a connection and a pattern or are we just tripping?
“For those wondering, we sold that show out,” SiR tweeted. “It was cancelled by the venue. Not sure why. My apologies again to those that came just to see me.”
SiR said “Not sure why.” Wink, wink.
After SiR’s cancellation, Schoolboy Q commented again on X:
“SING ON THE BUS ITS OVA WIT,” to which SiR replied, “They DON’T like us,” with a laughing emoji, possibly alluding to Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us.”
Maybe they’re right. Maybe they don’t. Just sayin.
