“Suspicious package” sent to Rep. Nancy Mace’s office, police say
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A suspicious package sent to Congresswoman Nancy Mace’s office Monday night led to a part of a Daniel Island roadway being shut down for several hours, police said Tuesday.
Around 4:30 p.m., Mace’s staff members received an unexpected package without a label, so they notified the police. The Charleston Police Department said the office had previously received a bomb threat in January.
Officers responded around 5 p.m. and secured the area by closing River Landing Drive between Fairchild Street and Seven Farms Drive. As a precaution, all nearby offices were evacuated while the department’s Explosive Device Team investigated the package.
Through the investigation, officers determined the package to be a legitimate delivery.
The roadway was reopened around 8:30 p.m.
“We appreciate the patience of those who live and work in the area and to the individuals who reported their concerns,” the department said.
