Summerville Police identify off-duty cop who shot man during altercation Wednesday
SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD ) — The Summerville Police Department has identified the off-duty officer who shot a man following an altercation at a Chick-fil-A.
Patrolman First Class Anthony DeLustro and Michael O’Neal, 39, were engaged in an altercation outside Chick-fil-A on North Main Street Wednesday afternoon.
During the incident, DeLustro fired a weapon, hitting and killing O’Neal, said the State Law Enforcement Division.
O’Neal was pronounced dead at the scene.
“On behalf of the Summerville Police Department, we offer our thoughts and prayers to the O’Neal family for the tragic loss of their loved one, Michael. Yesterday, I spoke with Michael’s parents and offered my sincere condolences,” said Summerville Police Chief Douglas Wright.
