CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD)- The question of which Democrats and Republicans will face off in November’s general election will be answered when South Carolinians take to the polls Tuesday.

All seven of South Carolina’s members in the U.S. House of Representatives are up for election this year as are all 170 members of the state legislature.

The ultimate winner will be decided by night’s end in a chunk of Statehouse races where incumbents running for re-election face no general election opponent.

In many races, the ultimate winner will be decided Tuesday as those running face neither a primary challenger nor a general election opponent.

A slew of county-wide races are also on the ballot, including sheriffs, solicitors, probate judges, coroners, and other local-level offices.

When do the polls open?

Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Anyone in line by 7 p.m. will be allowed to vote.

Who is on my ballot?

South Carolina adopted new state legislative district maps in December 2021 following the 2020 U.S. Census. Some district lines were redrawn, new districts were created, and some districts were eliminated.

Voters can also check who is on the ballot where they live by obtaining a sample ballot from the South Carolina Election Commission.

Which party’s primary can I participate in?

South Carolina does not require voters to register by political party and holds open primaries. This means that voters may choose to participate in either the Democratic or Republican primary, but not both.

Do I need a photo ID to vote?

A valid photo ID is required to vote in South Carolina elections, including for the primaries. Acceptable forms of identification include:

How do I find my polling place?

Voters can verify their precinct and find their polling location by visiting scvotes.gov and selecting “Find my Polling Place.”

Voters are encouraged to check ahead of time as some polling locations have temporarily or permanently changed.

Am I registered to vote?

You can check your voter registration status by visiting scvotes.gov and selecting “Check my Voter Registration.” You’ll need to enter your name, county, date of birth, and the last four digits of your social security number.

Can I still register to vote?

No. State law requires a person to register to vote at least 30 days before an election.
