SLED charges man for threatening Dorchester Co. case worker
DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has charged a man for threatening the life of a Dorchester County case worker who recommended the man’s daughter remain in foster care.
Joseph Robert Moffett, Jr., 35, of Florida, was charged with intimidation of a court official, threatening the life, person, or family of a public employee, stalking, and harassment in the second degree on Wednesday.
After being extradited from Florida, Moffett was booked into the Dorchester County Detention Center.
Between June 6 and June 16, Moffett allegedly sent the South Carolina DSS worker threatening messages that read in part, “You have abducted my daughter and hold her for ransom like a terrorist… when your enemy moves into your trap, simply stand up and slit their throat…you kidnapped me (sic) daughter, the same will happen to you… I do not have an issue with using physical force to get my daughter from her kidnappers…,” arrest warrants stated.
Authorities say these threats are considered an attempt to intimidate or impede a judge and obstruct justice in Dorchester County Family Court.
He also said in statements that the ice cream truck in the case workers’ neighborhood was watching them, constituting the stalking charge.
The 1st Circuit Solicitor’s Office will prosecute Moffett’s case.
