Roper to break ground on new North Charleston hospital campus

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Roper St. Francis Healthcare is breaking ground on its future North Charleston hospital campus.

The $1.2 billion project will be the size of 20 football fields once completed.

Officials said the new campus will be the fourth location for Roper Hospital since it opened in downtown Charleston in 1856.

It is expected to have a $2.5 billion economic impact and generate $3,600 construction-related jobs.

Wednesday’s groundbreaking will be held at the future campus site at 2401 Mall Drive at 1 p.m.

Officials with Roper St. Francis Healthcare said the campus is slated to be completed in 2029.
