Rep. Nancy Mace says she was assaulted at US Capitol
WASHINGTON (WCBD) – The Lowcountry’s congresswoman posted several statements Tuesday saying she was assaulted in Washington D.C.
Rep. Nancy Mace (R) explained that she was “physically accosted” on Capitol grounds Tuesday night. The attack has caused her to require a wrist brace, according to her X account.
When asked for further information, US Capitol Police sent the following statement:
“Just before 6:00 p.m., the Member of Congress’ office reported an incident in the Rayburn House Office Building. House Division officers, and agents with the Threat Assessment Section, tracked down the suspect. After an investigative interview, officers arrested the suspect, 33-year-old James McIntyre of Illinois. McIntyre is facing a charge for Assaulting a Government Official (18 USC 111).”
McIntyre entered the building after going through a security screening during public hours.
“All the violence and threats keep proving our point,” Mace wrote. “Women deserve to be safe.”
