Police recover vehicle, body from West Ashley pond
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A vehicle and body were recovered from a pond near Savage Road and Ashley Town Center Drive early Monday morning.
Sgt. Anthony Gibson, public information officer for the Charleston Police Department, said the vehicle belonged to a missing person who was last seen in the area the night before.
Sgt. Gibson said evidence of a vehicle leaving the roadway and entering the pond was discovered by an officer during a search of the area. The evidence included tire tracks leading into the pond and a car part on the nearby bank.
Charleston PD’s Underwater Response Team responded and found a black Acura sedan fully submerged in the pond. The body of that missing person was also found on the pond.
The Charleston County Coroner’s Office will identify the person when appropriate.
An investigation is underway. No other details were provided.
