Mount Pleasant PD says goodbye to retiring K-9 Vondi, hello to Max

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – A retirement ceremony was held Tuesday for a Mount Pleasant Police Department K-9 officer. The department also welcomed her replacement.

K-9 Vondi has served with the police department since August 2019, playing a vital role in keeping the town safe while demonstrating an unwavering dedication, skill, and loyalty.

During her time with Mount Pleasant PD, K-9 Vondi made numerous apprehensions for thefts, burglaries, assaults, and has captured several pounds of marijuana, fentanyl, meth, cocaine, and over $171,000 in cash.

“She’s done an amazing job. She’s had a great career. As Vondi approaches her retirement, we extend our heartfelt thanks for her many years of service and contributions to our department and our community. It will not be forgotten,” said Mount Pleasant Police Chief Mark Arnold during Tuesday’s ceremony outside Mount Pleasant Town Hall.

Vondi will continue to live with her handler, Pfc. M. Poore and his family, with whom she has been part of for over five years.

The department also swore in its newest four-legged officer, K-9 Max, during Tuesday’s ceremony, replacing Vondi.

“Max has gone through all his training and has officially been certified, so he’s able to start working with us,” said Sgt. Robert Blaschke. “He wants to work, and we were very happy to receive him through a donation from a citizen so that we could purchase Max.”
