Longtime radio host Mike Edwards, of “2 Girls and a Guy,” has died, radio station said
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Longtime Charleston radio host Mike Edwards, known as “Mike the Guy” on the “Two Girls and a Guy” radio show, has died, according to Charleston Radio Group.
Edwards served as program director for Mix 95.9 and worked alongside Brooke Ryan and Tanya Brown on the beloved morning radio show.
His co-hosts announced the news on Instagram and said they learned of Mike’s passing on Thursday morning.
“We don’t know what happened yet. And we just want you all to know that. We wanted to tell everyone because just like we loved him, you guys loved him as well,” said Ryan in her video message.
The radio show is planning a tribute show for Friday morning where they will air favorite segments that feature Mike Edwards. “We don’t know what the future holds or what it’s going to look like, but thank you all for your support,” added Ryan. “Thank you for loving Mike.”
Charleston Radio Group said in a press release that Mike’s love of radio started at age 14 at a small community station in Pocahontas County, WV.
He later moved to Charleston and served as program director at WSSX FM in 1994. He could be heard during the afternoon drives on 95SX as “Just Plain Mike.” He later joined the 2 Girls and a Guy morning show while it still aired on 95SX. The show later moved to WMXZ-FM Mix 95.9.
“His career success took him to multiple markets but ultimately his love for the Lowcountry could not be denied,” said Charleston Radio Group. “In 2014 “Two Girls and a Guy” reunited on Mix 95.9 with Mike, Brooke and Tanya and have been wildly successful entertaining our community ever since.”
Edwards is a multi-year winner of “Charleston’s Best Of” Radio Morning Show and Local Radio Personality awards.
“Mike was an amazing person, beloved by his coworkers, listeners and our entire organization and will be truly missed by those fortunate to have crossed his path,” said Charleston Radio Group President Paul O’Malley.
