James Island fire chief arrested for DUI on Isle of Palms Connector, police say

ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. (WCBD) – James Island Fire Chief Thomas Glick was arrested for driving under the influence late Wednesday night, police say.

Glick was pulled over on the Isle of Palms Connector around 10:00 p.m. and blew a .11 on a breathalyzer test, according to an official with the Isle of Palms Police Department.

According to an incident report from Isle of Palms PD, an officer observed a red Ford Mustang almost hit another vehicle in the oncoming lane. He was also seen traveling in the bike lane.

Glick told officers that he was coming from the Windjammer after attending a concert and admitted to consuming some alcoholic beverages, the report said.

The fire chief was booked into the Charleston County Detention Center shortly after 1:00 a.m. on a charge of DUI/DUI but less than .16, a first offense, jail records show. He was released Thursday afternoon on a $1,224.50 PR bond.

Glick, 63, was promoted to fire chief in August 2022 and has served the James Island community for more than 43 years, according to the James Island Public Service District Fire Department.

Marilyn Clifford, chair of the James Island Public Service District, provided the following comment when asked Thursday: “We are aware of the situation, and it is under investigation by our board.  Chief Glick is currently on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation”.
