Georgetown native Melissa Jefferson places first and advances to finals in her Olympic debut

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Georgetown native Melissa Jefferson, at just 23 years old, has made an incredible mark in her first Olympic appearance. 

Jefferson’s journey to the finals of the Women’s 100-meter dash began on Friday, where she secured second place in her heat with an impressive time of 10.96 seconds. This performance ranked her as the seventh-fastest among eight heats, earning her a spot in the semifinals.

In the semifinals, Jefferson shined, placing first and securing her place in the final of the Women’s 100-meter dash. Her speed and determination have captivated audiences, marking her as a rising star to watch in track and field events.
