Driver dead after SUV ran off US 52, struck tree

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A driver is dead following a Saturday afternoon crash in Berkeley County.

Cpl. Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the driver of a 2007 Toyota SUV was traveling east on US Highway 52 around 4:40 p.m. when they ran off the road, hit a curb, and then struck a tree.

The driver, who was the only occupant, died as a result of the crash. Their name has not yet been released.

The crash is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
