Charleston Southern names Saah Nimley as head basketball coach
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A face familiar to the Buccaneers is taking over – officially – as the basketball team’s head coach.
Saah Nimley, who has been serving as interim head coach, was named head coach in an announcement by Charleston Southern University (CSU) on Monday morning.
Nimley began serving the team as interim in November when Barclay Radebaugh stepped down after 19 seasons.
Since taking over the program, CSU said the team has “caught life with him leading them to one of the best finishes in conference play since the 2019-2020 season bringing something different out of the team every time out.”
Nimley said he is deeply grateful and honored to be appointed as head coach at Charleston Southern. “I am thankful for the players and the staff who have shown resilience in the face of challenges this season. This program has opened doors for me that I never imagined, and I am committed to giving back and helping these young men reach their full potential,” he said. “Buc Nation, get ready for an exciting journey ahead. It’s Game 7!”
Nimley was a four-year player with the Buccaneers from 2011-2015 and became one of the top players in CSU history as he ranks first all-time in career assists (511) and third in career scoring (1,866), according to the school.
He was inducted into the school’s athletics Hall of Fame on September 2, 2022.
