Charleston Police to conduct traffic enforcement Thursday night

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The Charleston Police Department will conduct traffic safety checkpoints on the peninsula Thursday night.

Officers will be present at two intersections between 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.

One checkpoint will be located on E. Bay Street at South Street and another on King Street at Huger Street.

β€œPlease be responsible, don’t drink and drive,” the department said.

Charleston Police began increasing enforcement presence earlier this month following a double hit-and-run crash that left two women dead on Morrison Drive.

Checkpoints can be expected throughout the city and on major thoroughfares in and out of the city seven days a week.

Police issued five citations while conducting enforcement on Highway 61 and Sycamore Avenue last week and made one arrest for possession with intent to distribute.
