Charleston native and Olympic gold medalist Katrina McClain gives insight into competing on the world stage

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – Olympic gold medalist Katrina McClain stopped by the News 2 Olympic Zone on Saturday evening to lend some insight into competing on the world stage and reflect on her celebrated career.

McClain grew up in Charleston and attended St. Andrews High School before playing for the University of Georgia. She is no stranger to the Olympic Games.

The basketball legend represented Team USA as she excelled as a dominant rebounder and scorer in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, Korea, the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain, and the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. Through her time competing she earned two gold medals and a bronze.

McClain’s success includes multiple awards and recognition throughout her career, solidifying her as one of the most decorated athletes in USA basketball history.

She has also been inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Game and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
