CCSD board approves plan for replacing constituent boards

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Charleston County School District’s Board of Trustees has approved a plan for how responsibilities that were once delegated to the now-dissolved constituent boards will be handled in the new school year.

The district suggested that duties for student transfers, drawing attendance zones, and handling student discipline will now be split among district staff and the board of trustees.

The board took the district’s suggestions and voted to move the plans forward during a meeting on Monday night.

The most structural change comes in disciplinary hearings. Those will now follow a three-step process.

A school will refer its decision to the district for further review, and two panels will be established through the Department of School Support to hear disciplinary matters.

The three-member panel will comprise one current or former school administrator, one classified administrator, and one community member.

Those panels will report directly to the superintendent.
