Berkeley Co. man told not to return in Cainhoy Meeting Tree after deputies arrive on the scene

BERKELY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office has arrived to the scene of the Cainhoy Meeting Tree to prevent a man from returning in the tree in his efforts to save it.

Sammy Sanders arrived to the tree Monday night with plans to remain in the tree all night to prevent officials from tearing it down.

Sanders owns the land that the tree sits on and says that he is trying to preserve the legacy of the tree in which his father specifically bought the plot with the tree in order to protect and preserve the oak.

Sanders believes his month long efforts to preserve and save the Cainhoy Meeting Tree is coming to an end.
