Applications open for locals to attend Citizens Academy

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for the next Citizens Academy for residents to learn every aspect of the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office states that Charleston residents will receive education on various aspects of law enforcement, including law, detention, and judicial enforcement, to help them gain a better understanding of the work deputies do to ensure their safety.

The class format will have presentations from deputies, as well as hands-on activities, tours, and storytelling, according to Charleston County.

Charleston County Sheriff’s Office says applicants must be 18 years of age, a resident of Charleston County, and fill out the following form to be considered for the class.

Each class will held on a Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Law Enforcement Center.

Classes will take place on Aug. 14, 21, and 28; Sept. 4, 11, 18, and 25; and Oct. 2, 9, 16, and 23.
