Accused ‘Peeping Tom’ also linked to burglary, sexual assault: CPD

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A suspect has been arrested in connection with the peeping tom incident in downtown Charleston and has also been linked to additional cases.

The suspect has been charged in connection with a separate burglary and sexual assault incident in West Ashley, according to the Charleston Police Department.

Juan Angel Borrero Bristol, 43, of Charleston has been identified as the suspect. Bristol is charged with two counts of voyeurism, first-degree burglary and two counts of assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct, officers report.

On July 6th around 2:40 a.m., a suspect was observed going onto a porch of a Radcliffe Street residence and peeking through windows at two separate victims.

Officials say while investigating the peeping tom incident, they were notified of a burglary and sexual assault that occurred around 4 a.m. on Broad Street the same night in West Ashley involving a similarly described suspect.

Officers responded to a report of an unknown male who entered an apartment on Ashley Crossing Drive and sexually assaulted two victims.

Authorities say a further investigation revealed Bristol was also responsible for an attempted burglary on Saint Phillip Street in 2023, he is additionally charged with attempted burglary.

“These cases were solved through the collective effort of our community, media, and our officers and detectives who have been working on these investigations around the clock,” said Chief Walker. “We continue to recognize that vigilance and community involvement protect our city’s well-being.”’
