The importance and education of mental health have been a more frequent topic these days. Athletes and celebrities have been publicizing the importance of choosing a healthy mental space first before anything. Just recently, Simone Biles withdrew from the Tokyo Olympics for a “medical issue.”

“Once I came out here [to compete], I was like, ‘No, mental is not there, so I just need to let the girls do it and focus on myself,’” Biles stated.

Amongst the group of icons prioritizing mental health is 20-year-old singer, Willow Smith. The “Transparent Soul” singer sat down on the YungBlud podcast and revealed how the music industry affected her mental health.

“I felt extremely unsafe in my music career in the past and that feeling of insecurity or unsafety like I didn’t feel protected, which went really deep,” she stated.

The singer shared that many of her “memories and emotions have just been resurfacing.”She then reminisced her Jimmy Fallon performance where she states she “had like a flashback of being like ten or nine and having like an anxiety attack on set and basically feeling like everyone around me was like ‘You’re just a brat,’” she said. ‘Why aren’t you grateful?’”

“They didn’t see it as an anxiety attack, they saw it as a tantrum. Now, I look back and know it was an anxiety attack. [I] tell myself that, ‘You’re not nine, you’re a grown-ass woman.’ I have to retrain my mind,” she mentioned. “My mental health is in a very fragile state, but I think it’s in a state where it’s about to grow in a really awesome way.”
