World Grits Festival to celebrate 40th anniversary in St. George

ST. GEORGE, S.C.  (WCBD) – A three-day festival celebrating a southern food staple will celebrate its 40th anniversary when it returns to St. George this weekend.

The World Grits Festival, established in the spring of 1986, is a celebration of community just as much as it celebrates the food. It also serves as an economic boost for the Dorchester County community.

Churches often sell meals as fundraisers, locals sell their art and desserts, and hotels book thousands of guests that attend the festival every year.

Attendees can enjoy a carnival, arts and crafts, food, and live entertainment throughout the event. Lowcountry musician Dylan Carter, who competed on season 24 of ‘The Voice’ on NBC, will perform Friday.

A parade, grits-eating contest, and wheelbarrow race will be featured Saturday, along with the world-famous rollin’ in the grits event.

The World Grits Festival returns on April 11, 12, and 13 in St. George.
