DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – First responders are on the scene after an excavator hit a high pressure gas line in Dorchester County.

Clay Field Trail in Summers Corner is shut down while crews work in the area.

There is no expected time when the roadway will reopen. Law enforcement asks drivers to avoid the area and to follow directions of on-site responders.

Dorchester County officials say, “The county worked with SCDOT for ingress and egress for a temporary pipe and a temporary access road to provide travel access for Summers Corner residents.”

There is now a temporary two-lane access to SC Route 165/Delemar Highway open to the public. The temporary access road is about 300 feet from the Clay Field Trail/Route 165 entrance.

Residents are still encouraged to drive slowly through the area. A police officer will be on-site to assist with traffic, county officials report.

The county is anticipating an additional lane to be open to traffic later this afternoon.
