Arrest made in string of downtown Charleston car break-ins, thefts

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — Police arrested a North Charleston man this week in connection with a string of recent car break-ins and thefts in downtown Charleston thanks to the help of GPS data.

Antroy Xavier Choice, 20, is charged with three counts of grand larceny and two counts of breaking into a motor vehicle.

Choice allegedly broke into a vehicle in a parking garage on Calhoun Street on Nov. 26 and stole a parked car from Church Street the next day, according to the Charleston Police Department (CPD).

Authorities said detectives also linked Choice to a Dec. 9 car theft on King Street, a Dec. 16 car theft on Cumberland Street, and additional burglaries in the area using GPS data from his ankle monitor.

All three stolen vehicles were later recovered in North Charleston.

“The series of thefts serves as a reminder that vehicles are not secure storage spaces for valuables,” police said in a news release. “Please lock your doors, take your keys with you, look out for your neighbors and report suspicious activity.”

Choice is currently being held in the Al Cannon Detention Center.
