When to catch a Christmas parade where you live
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – It’s the season to celebrate community, and many areas around the Lowcountry will soon fill the streets with festive splendor. Christmas parades are back!
High school bands, businesses, churches, community leaders, and some familiar faces – like Santa Claus — are preparing to march in towns around the area wishing you season’s greetings.
And Santa will be busy this year. Parade season kicks off with four parades happening this weekend from Moncks Corner to Georgetown, Charleston, and North Charleston. It culminates with a fireworks show and nighttime light parade in Mount Pleasant on December 15.
Below is a list of where you can catch a Christmas parade where you live.
December 7
- City of Hanahan – The Exchange Club will host Hanahan’s annual Christmas parade beginning at 10 a.m. It starts at Hanahan High School and travels down Murray Drive to Belvedere, onto Loftis, then Yeamans Hall to Murray Drive, and ends back at the school.
- City of Georgetown – Parade begins at 11 a.m. on Front Street
- City of Charleston – Enjoy bands, businesses, and organizations as they march down Broad, Meeting and Calhoun Streets beginning at 3 p.m. Then head over to Marion Square for the tree lighting at 6:30 p.m.
- City of North Charleston – Get into the holiday spirit with the city’s Christmas festival from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The evening is filled with family-friendly activities, festive food, plenty of twinkling lights, and visits with Santa. The parade begins at 5 p.m. around Park Circle.
- Town of Moncks Corner – Celebrate the season with friends, families, and neighbors during Moncks Corner’s nighttime Christmas parade on Main Street! It begins at 6 p.m.
December 8
- Town of Summerville – This year’s theme is ‘Christmas songs’ at the Summerville Christmas parade. The festive event begins at 2 p.m.
- City of Walterboro – Enjoy an evening of fun at the Walterboro Christmas parade! The event happens on Hampton and East Washington Streets from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Be sure to stop by City Hall at 5 p.m. for the Christmas tree lighting!
- Town of Hollywood – The town’s Christmas parade will begin at Baptist Hill High School at 2 p.m.
December 14
- City of Folly Beach – Head to the “Edge of America” on December 14 where unique floats will line the streets! The parade begins at noon.
- City of Goose Creek – The annual Christmas in the Creek parade on St. James Avenue begins at 9:30 a.m.
- Charleston Harbor – Lighted and festive boats will travel down the Cooper River, through Charleston Harbor and into the Ashley River during the annual Holiday Parade of Boats! It begins at 6 p.m. with great waterfront views.
December 15
- Town of Mount Pleasant – Hundreds of lighted floats will travel along Coleman Boulevard as the parade begins at 5:30 p.m. The route begins at Live Oak and travels south to the intersection of Coleman Blvd. and Patriots Point Road.
