Community open house planned Tuesday for Lowcountry Rapid Transit project

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – What are the next steps for the Lowcountry Rapid Transit Project? Residents, businesses, and community members can see the latest developments during an open house presentation.

The Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments said the rapid transit project had reached a major milestone in advancing the design of the 21.3-mile rapid bus system.

People interested in the rapid transit system can attend a presentation on Tuesday that will provide an update on the project. Attendees will get an idea of how the system will work, and have an opportunity to give input on the development.

The system will primarily operate in dedicated lanes from Ladson, through North Charleston along Rivers Avenue, and into downtown Charleston’s medical district. The project aims to provide a safe, reliable, low-cost alternative to travel and commuting.

The drop-in-style open house meetings will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at the Keith Summey Public Library (3503 Rivers Avenue.)
