Police: search underway after 40 primates escape research facility in Yemassee

YEMASSEE, S.C. (WCBD) – Authorities say 40 primates have escaped a research facility in the Yemassee area on Wednesday evening.

Officials with the Yemassee Police Department say the primates escaped from the Alpha Genesis Primate Research Center on Castle Hall Road.

Traps were set up in the area and police are using thermal imaging cameras to help locate the animals.

Police are asking residents to keep their doors and windows secure to prevent animals from entering their homes.

Call 911 if you spot one of the escaped animals, and do not approach the primates.
