Reports provides details on deadly July 4th weekend shooting in Berkeley Co.

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office has released the report on a shooting over the Fourth of July weekend, providing new details into the fatal incident.

On July 5, deputies responded to a location on Universal Circle in the Alvin Community in St. Stephen after receiving reports that a shooting had occurred and one person was injured.

When they arrived, they found several people holding up the victim, who was unresponsive and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was identified by Berkeley County Coroner Dylan Hartwell as 28-year-old Cameron Tyler Reid.

The coroner pronounced Reid deceased on the scene at 10:18 p.m. that Friday.

After investigating the scene, deputies found rifle casings all over the property, including on the grass in front of the residence and across the roadway.

Detectives determined that the suspect, Norman Robinson Jr., got into an altercation with Reid before shooting and killing him. After shooting Reid, Robinson allegedly opened fire inside the residence full of his own family members, including two juveniles.

Robinson was arrested on Wednesday after being found in Orangeburg County.

He was booked at the Berkeley County Detention Center on the following charges: murder, seven counts of attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

At a bond hearing Wednesday night, a magistrate judge denied bond for all Robinson’s charges except the murder charge. Only a circuit court judge can set a bond for a murder charge.

Robinson maintained innocence during the hearing, saying he barely knew Reid and that investigators would uncover the truth of what happened.

“But I couldn’t tell you where his house was at or none of that..,” he said through a video call.  “Like I remember him when we he was smaller, and I was smaller but then I moved away so like I don’t really know the little guy.”

During the hearing, emotions ran high as Reid’s family members addressed Robinson.

“You call my son the little guy; that’s fine. But he’s the bigger guy now.  But I want you to know, Mr. Robinson, if you did it or you didn’t do it, but I want everybody that been in that yard that night. Everybody got to be talked to..,” said Larry Reid, the victim’s father. “Something happened and went down, and we want to get to the bottom of it. And no, I don’t think you should have no bond.”

A few people were escorted out of the courtroom during the hearing.
