Several students charged after large fight breaks out at Ashley Ridge High
DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — A large fight broke out at Ashley Ridge High School on Feb. 5 that resulted in multiple students being charged with assault and assault on an officer, the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
Lt Rick Carson, spokesman for DCSO, said he could not yet confirm how many were charged for the fight. However, based on the incident report on the situation, at least eight students were charged with battery and assault in the third degree, and at least two were charged with assault and battery in the third degree and assault on a police officer while resisting arrest.

According to the report, the school resource officer says the fight began between two males in the small cafeteria during lunch. The fight then escalated, and more students joined in, including females.
The report says that one student struck an officer several times while the officer was trying to break up a fight between female students. That student continued to resist the officer’s instructions and was put in handcuffs.
One student jumped on the back of the school resource officer and continued fighting other students while also striking the officer at times, the report says. Another student struck a teacher trying to break up the fight, and “at one point, [the teacher] falls to the floor,” the report reads.
The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office is investigating this case, and more information is expected to be released shortly. News 2 has contacted Dorchester District 2 for comment on the matter. DD2 has not yet replied.
