Trump to Host Campaign Rally on Jan. 6 Anniversary

Donald Trump Reportedly Teases 2024 Presidential Run at CPAC

With the Republican primary less than two months away, former President Donald Trump is celebrating the Insurrection anniversary of Jan. 6 with a rally.

The “Commit to Caucus Rally” will be held in Newton, Iowa. Members of the Republican party are downplaying the key date. Specifically, Thad Nearmyer, chairman of the Jasper County, Iowa Republican party, stated the date was an afterthought.

“A little bit later it kind of occurred to me that that date has some significance,” Mr Nearmyer said. “It wasn’t nearly as big of a deal as it was made out to be.”

Just last week, Maine became the latest state that will not include Donald Trump on the 2024 Republican Primary Ballot. According to CNN, Maine’s top election official have removed Trump based on an “insurrectionist ban” presented in the 14th Amendment.

The 14th Amendment prohibits individuals who participate in insurrection from holding future public office in the United States.

Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows anticipates the Trump campaign’s appeal. Bellows is a Democrat but led a bipartisan group that didn’t find Trump to be fit for the ballot.

“I do not reach this conclusion lightly,” Bellows wrote. “Democracy is sacred … I am mindful that no Secretary of State has ever deprived a presidential candidate of ballot access based on Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment. I am also mindful, however, that no presidential candidate has ever before engaged in insurrection.”

Earlier this month, Colorado Supreme Court removed Trump from their state’s primary ballot. The Trump team also appealed that decision.

“Democrats in blue states are recklessly and un-Constitutionally suspending the civil rights of the American voters by attempting to summarily remove President Trump’s name from the ballot,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said.
