In the middle of aggressive changes at Twitter, Instagram & Meta launched a rival app Threads with positive feedback from users.
For years people asked how the Twitter app was free and Elon Musk quickly moved to capitalize on those who would pay. Twitter offered the previously exclusive blue check mark to those willing to pay. The second biggest change to the verification program happened this past weekend when free users were limited to 600 tweets. Paid users were also limited to 6000 tweets which left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth.
In yet another exercise in irony, this post achieved a record view count!

Months ago rumors started surfacing that Meta and Instagram were cooking up a rival app just like Twitter soon after Elon took over. Once Elon announced Twitter would limit tweets it announced Instagram would be launching Threads today. Meta launched their new Twitter rival early hitting the internet yesterday afternoon.
Time it took to reach 10 million users
Threads: 7 Hours
Google+: 16 Days
ChatGPT: 40 Days
Clubhouse: 347 Days
Instagram: 355 Days
Twitter: 780 Days
Facebook: 852 Days— Darren Rovell (@darrenrovell) July 6, 2023
The app reached 10 million sign-ups in just seven hours shaking the table for Twitter like never before. The app feels almost like a carbon copy of Twitter.
twitter’s ui is better for text content.
why? notice the hierarchyon twitter
— you see the creator first
— the tweet second
— interaction icons third (greyer)on threads
— the interaction icons take highest priority
— the text content is crushed

Will this be enough to put Twitter in the dirt for good? Only time will tell, but Twitter still has the chance to make amends with its current users. After a decade of memories for most, it’s going to be hard to break up with the once-beloved bird app. Elon has to turn a profit with Twitter while also keeping users happy which is possible. Reportedly Twitter is threatening to sue Mark Zuckerberg and Meta claiming they stole IP secrets and hired its former employees for its new app. It seems the battle of the apps has just begun.
Twitter is threatening to sue Meta over “systematic, willful and unlawful misappropriation” of Twitter’s trade secrets and IP.
