By now you’ve heard the news Deion Sanders is leaving his post at Jackson State to become head coach at Colorado University. The decision for Sanders was forecasted in a recent 60 Minutes interview. Deion proclaimed if a Power 5 job came calling he would “have to entertain it”. In the aftermath of his announcement social media is left split on his decision. One person who came to Deion’s defense was long-time friend Shannon Sharpe.
I went to an HBCU, but only because I was prop 48. It worked out gr8 for me. Had I had the grades coming out of hs. I wouldn’t haven’t chosen an HBCU. https://t.co/dC2sFXB4iT

What about doing what’s best for him and his family? That what you would do. We ask others to do what we would never do. https://t.co/QavEqFrTlO

Shannon’s comments were immediately met with backlash and he has been fighting it since.
Shannon Sharp Defends HBCU Comments He Made In Defense Of Deion Sanders’ Leaving Jackson State University
At this point Shannon Sharpe isn’t beating the allegations no matter how many Tweets he responds to. Sharpe even took his argument to his FOX show UNDISPUTED on FS1 and continued to defend his point of view.
Let’s be excited for @DeionSanders. He gave JSU 3 great years, 2 SWAC championships, a new football facility and a blueprint of what they can become. pic.twitter.com/JaqBPGcD9d

Three days after his comments and Deion’s announcement Sharpe is still on social media defending his claims.
Nothing to defend Dave. All I heard you say it what you achieved from HBCU. What about Time wants for he and his family? https://t.co/A7wvkrcdLu

SSU was gr8 for me and when I had a chance to leave I didn’t. How you took an HBCU wasn’t my 1st choice for college as a slight is beyond me. That’s your choice how you read. https://t.co/iGM3eCekbv

Shannon’s says his comments about not choosing an HBCU first shouldn’t be a slight. HBCU alumni and current students clearly took offense to the statement. The age old argument has always been HBCU’s should be seen the same as other schools.
Dumb Dumb I’m a graduate of an HBCU. You’ve come to the conclusion because HBCU wasn’t my 1st choice. I have disdain for them? That is utterly RIDICULOUS https://t.co/L0hSZmwrCF

From an educational stand HBCU’s are on par with PWI’s, but from a facilities and resources stand point it’s not close. Stop trying to pretend it is. It isn’t https://t.co/KAlIvQKitR

After five days of defending the comments Mr. Sharpe isn’t slowing down and STILL responding to anyone taking issues with the comments.
